Gavin Rumgay tops the Butterfly Grand Prix Circuit

Gavin Rumgay won the Mid Sussex Grand Prix recently with wins against Lawrence Trumpaukas in the semi final and Stephen Jenkins of Wales in the final. This was Gavin's fifth Grand Prix win out of eight appearances this season and it confirmed his position as the overall winner of the Mens Singles category of the Butterfly Grand Prix Circuit and the first prize of £1600 that goes with it. Following previous wins in the Liverpool, Cardiff, Clare Pengelly and Blackpool events and further semi final placings, an accumulation of the points showed that Gavin was a runaway winner of the series with a clear lead over second placed Abdul Wuraola from Surrey. This latest success just adds to what has already been a rewarding 12 months for Gavin. During this time Gavin's World ranking has risen steadily to No.348 after a series of consistent performances whilst playing for Scotland in major international championships. This included the World Team Championships in Bremen, the European Championships in Belgrade and most recently the Commonwealth Championships in India, where he reached the quarter final stage of the Mens Singles and won the majority of his team matches. Gavin seems to have benefited from a season at Filton College in Bristol where he has been able to train on a more regular basis.
