Background to the UKCC 

               

2002            Government led Coaching Task Force final report identified a number of challenges to coaching including a clear lack of qualified coaches, great differences between the skills, knowledge and standards of practicing coaches, the absence of a national coaching standard and a lead agency to drive one.

 

Key recommendations from the Coaching Task Force:             

                                               

 

The development of the UK   Coaching Certificate - UKCC (* initially known as ‘National Coaching Certificate’)

 

 

So . . . what is the UKCC?

 

The UKCC is an endorsement of sport specific coach education systems against agreed criteria across five levels.

This means that all sports will meet minimum standards with regards to delivery and assessment for each level of qualification.

 

Sports will develop and improve existing coaching structures and qualifications to meet UK wide standards.

What does the UKCC mean for Coaches.....

 

 

 

How will Coaches in Scotland be affected by the introduction of the UKCC?

 

·         Level 2 (Club Coach) current qualifications will be valid until (yet to be confirmed) 2012

·         Unaffected Coaches Currently qualified include:

Assistant Teacher Award (Pre 2003 Teachers / Leader Cert)

Level 1 Coach (Pre 2003 Club Coach)

·         TTS will offer “Introduction to Table Tennis"Awards

 

 

 

 

The UKCC Level Descriptors (for expected Level 1 & 2 Standards)

 

Level 1: Assist more qualified coaches, delivering aspects of coaching sessions, normally under direct supervision

 

Level 2: Prepare for, deliver and review coaching session(s)

 

 

 

(* Note: Level 1 Table Tennis coaches will be able to deliver sessions without direct supervision using  National Governing Body (NGB) developed resources appropriate at that level)
